Introducing Wizwand: Giving Researchers Their Superpowers Back
We are thrilled to announce the launch of Wizwand, a new tool designed with a singular mission: to empower researchers to discover, read, and collaborate on papers more effectively than ever before.
The name "Wizwand" stands for "Wands for Wizards." We believe that researchers are the modern-day wizards pushing the boundaries of what is possible, and every wizard needs a powerful wand to channel their magic.
At launch, Wizwand focuses on two core pillars: Paper Discovery and Note Taking.
Reviving the Art of Paper Discovery
Our primary goal with paper discovery is to assist Machine Learning researchers in finding State-of-the-Art (SOTA) benchmarks and papers across various tasks.
For many of us in the community, Papers With Code (PwC) was an essential daily resource. Like many of you, we were saddened when the original website was discontinued in mid-2025 and redirected to HuggingFace. The interface and experience were deeply loved by the community, and its absence left a void.
Wizwand is our attempt to bring that beloved experience back.
We want to be transparent and humble about our origins: Wizwand is built on top of the incredible open-source work previously released by the Papers With Code team. We have taken their strong foundation and added our own improvements to modernize and stabilize the experience.
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the original PwC team for their contributions to the open science community. We hope Wizwand serves as a worthy successor that honors their work while pushing the platform forward.
For full transparency, license details regarding the open-source components can be found on our OSS Licenses page.
Seamless Note Taking and Sharing
Finding a paper is only half the battle; absorbing it is the rest. Wizwand integrates a powerful in-browser PDF reader directly into your workflow.
- Annotate Anywhere: Highlight text, jot down thoughts, and markup figures directly on the PDF.
- Cloud Sync: Everything is backed up automatically to the cloud, ensuring you never lose a breakthrough thought.
- Private Groups: Research is rarely a solo endeavor. You can create custom "Groups" to share your notes and annotations with peers, creating a private, comfortable space for deep discussion and collaboration.
Our Commitment to Open Source
We are strong believers in open science and open software. While we are currently focused on stabilizing the platform for our initial users, we have concrete plans to open source the Wizwand codebase in the near future.
We want to give back to the ecosystem that made this tool possible. To stay updated on our open-source roadmap, please follow us on X: @wizwand_team.
Join the Conversation
Wizwand is built for you, and we need your voice to make it better. Whether you have feature ideas, feedback on the current build, or just want to chat with fellow researchers, we invite you to join our community.
